Hooray for today! Halloween is finally here; a day where it's okay for anyone to expose their inner child. You can dress up in public and no one thinks twice about it. Today invokes thoughts of chili and spiced cider, candy apples and ringing doorbells. A little, glow-in-the-dark ghost made from polymer clay floats above an autumnal leaf-strewn base. The little guy sports a a Trick or Treat bag. Lastly, a striped clay border accents the area between the lid and the base.
I created a tiny, hollow Jack-O-Lantern out of polymer clay as the theme of today's lid, a small blinking light is affixed inside to illuminate the pumpkin. Black textured clay, accented with copper Jacquard's Pearl Ex mica pigment powder is used for the base. Candy corn millefiori cane slices accent the rim of the lid for a touch of sweetness.
Today's lid is a fright-fest of Halloween theme-ology. The skull is antiqued polymer clay made from a mold, created with a JHB International button. The polymer clay lettering spelling out "b-o-o," was made using the "stencil-gane" technique featured in The Complete Book of Polymer Clay. Surrounding these accents are millefiori canework in the motif of spider's webs and the body of a spider with striped body markings and legs. A tiny, Sutton Slice (also featured in The Complete Book of Polymer Clay) crest featuring a skull and crossbones, is the centerpiece atop a striped clay rim. Scary fun!
A glistening spider's web created out of tiny SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS chaton crystals was made in a base of Crystal Clay epoxy clay. Fine black Parawire was used to create the legs of a spider through a round crystal bead. This was added to the edge of a polymer clay base. The pattern is a millefiori design that is meant to be subtly suggestive of a spider's web.
...is creativity! A fiery, miniature mask is the focal point of today's creation. After creating a polymer clay base, tiny, millefiori cane slices were used to cover it in a manner that suggests a feathered Carnival mask. A base of foiled clay that was subtly crackled for the background. Slightly larger cane slices were added along the rim as a framing accent.
Spiked dagger charms and pointed nail heads were added to today's lid in a base of Crystal Clay epoxy clay. Unlike the softer side of Halloween and yesterday's creation, this lid offers an edgier feel as the week-long tribute to the holiday continues.
Today begins a week-long tribute to one of my favorite holidays, Halloween! For the next seven days, a Halloween themed creation will be featured on the blog. This is a week I have long, looked forward to. I hope you enjoy the creations as much as I enjoyed making them. Today's was made with an intention to be both cute and whimsical. Ecru and white clay was mixed to create the look of aged bandaging. This was applied in strips over a peeked-green clay face. After baking, markings made with a craft knife were antiqued with brown acrylic paint. Triple-toned striping was added around the rim for the finishing touch.
A vintage jewelry finding was re-purposed for this lid. I removed the beads that previously dangled from the setting and added SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals and pearls along the sides, corner, and top. The setting is added over a polymer clay base with striped clay accenting the rim.
I'm still feeling the "Love" from creating a letter imprint on yesterday's lid. Once again, the Love Letter texture stamp is used, but this time, it was applied over a layered background of embedded millefiori and foiled clay elements. Gradient clay strips were manipulated into a random variegation to create the pattern that covers the rim. Lastly, the lid was coated with Magic Glos UV resin to give a glossy finish.
A vintage, porcelain doll's head (often referred to as a Frozen Charlotte) is set in a base of polymer clay. The pattern is made from scrap clay and a frame of millefiori clay cane slices is set around the neck. The clay surrounding the rim was splattered with Jacquard Piñata inks and then impressed with the Love Letter stamp from my texture sheet collection. Clearsnap's Colorbox black ink was used for the lettering.
